I've been steadily working on a WIKI that is focused on the Brooklyn Centre area of Cleveland.
Some or all parts of the "Barbarowa Neighborhood" link will eventually all be migrated over into the WIKI. The photo albums are already there, as is the census list.
During my research of the families that lived here, other interesting tidbits have turned up and I just thought the WIKI would be an ideal place to store them.
If you have any suggestions, I'd like to hear them. Also, if you'd like to add information to the WIKI, you'll have to register. It would be so much better if the WIKI could be freely open to anyone, but the spammers out there revel in the opportunity to splatter their grafiti everywhere, so registration is now, unfortunately, required to edit anything. You can freely browse, though.

When I started this project, the 4 trees I had were clearly separate entities with no crossover. Now there are various points where there is an overlap. Someone from tree #1 was married to someone from tree #2 and someone from tree #2 was married to someone from tree #3.
I'm telling you this because there are going to be times where you do a search for a name and the results are going to show two entries. One from one tree and one from another.
And yet, I can't bear the thought of merging all the trees into one. The way they are now, at least I have a clear idea of which group I'm working on when I have new material to enter.

Oh the joys of trying to learn PHP and MySQL at my age! With no gurus around to ask for help, it's been a mildly uphill battle trying to rewrite some parts of the website. When a stumbling block presents itself, no amount of banging my head against a wall seems to help. But that's ok.
My initial trepidation at tackling a new language has turned out to be pointless. PHP isn't that much harder than anything I've used before. It's just got some different ways of doing things. In some ways, it's a LOT easier than other languages I've used. Finding that out was very encouraging. Writing a database project took approximately one week to figure out, so for a newbie I think that ain't bad at all.
The project is almost ready to go live.

I just put up several Polish recipes of foods my Grandmother would often make, whether for Easter, or Christmas, or just daily fare. These are Polish comfort foods.
Maybe your family made them slightly differently, but this was our tradition and you are welcome to try the recipes out. They are set up to print out at a 3x5 format which is perfect for pasting onto your typical recipe card.

Thanks to Jim Smenda for contributing some pictures of processions from St. Barbara Church.
He's also given us a picture of a mystery baseball player wearing a St. Barbara's uniform. I didn't even know they had a baseball team! If anyone recognizes him or knows where that photo was taken, please let me know.
I think the location might be in the general vicinity of the ravine that was between W.18th and W.15th north of Denison Ave. The house seen to his left looks like one of the houses on W.18th but I'm not positive until I can get down to the old neighborhood and take a look.
Don't forget! If you have any interesting photos to share, we'd love to get them. Unique items like these should not fall into the back of some box somewhere never to be seen again.
