PERSONALITY:

A modest man who did not revel in the pomp and circumstance of royalty. Unimpressive and commonplace, he was considered weak, ignorant and ineffective as King.

COMMENTS:

Succeeded his brother, GEORGE IV, to the throne upon his death in 1830.
Had 10 illegitimate children aside from the two he had with his wife.

TIMELINE:

Jul 11, 1818	Married Princess Adelaide, eldest daughter of George Frederick, Duke of Saxe-Meiningen.
Sep 8, 1830	Crowned at Westminster Abbey.
Jun 20, 1837	Died of pneumonia at age 73.
